Inspiring quotes are useless

All those inspirational stuff that you read on Facebook or through WhatsApp forwards are basically useless. Take an example "no matter how hard the path, keep walking, and never give up." OK, I made that up for the moment, but a lot of the "inspirational" stuff boil down to something about never giving up and always moving towards your goal etc.

Actually this is stupid. If the path is too hard, sometimes you need to find a better path. Otherwise your feet will hurt too much by the time you reach your destination. Is the destination really worth the effort? Or is there any easier way to reach the destination? Or is it so beyond your reach that it is not even worth starting the journey? All practical questions that need to be answered and the answers aren't always simple or straightforward.

Also take another example of how we should deal with unwanted people/relationships in life. Can any of us actually say that the "inspirational" quotes really help deal with the everyday idiots in our lives?

In life, inspirational quotes are useless. And worse than useless if somebody is stupid enough to follow them.

Doctor who doesn't smile

I am not sure whether it is my conditioning, but I don't instinctively trust doctors who smile too much or try to be friendly to their patients. I guess I am just old school and I am not comfortable with doctors who go out of the way to put their patients at ease. Give me the gruff old school doctor who scolds his/her patients for not following instructions and doesn't prescribe too many diagnostic test or medicines.

And... I am also uncomfortable with doctors who write too neatly :-p

Vetti politics on facebook

I see an increasing trend of people forwarding வெட்டி political memes on Facebook. It is no longer a social medium but a political platform for all and sundry. The thing is, nobody is listening to anybody else. And... what is the point of forwarding something without adding your own personal inputs to the issue?

Not that I object to memes in general, especially the funny, clever ones.

Sheer laziness has contributed to this trend. I feel this generation are slowly losing that ability to think independently and approach any issue in a nuanced, balanced way.

And don't get me started on fake news...

A new blog without any specific idea

Sheer boredom has compelled me to start this new blog titled paal kova, a simple but tasty milk sweet of South India. A blogspot is similiar to paal kova in the sense that it is a low investment effort. If nothing comes of it, I can simply close it and move on.

I feel quite clever of having thought of the connection between paal kova and blogspot.
